Sarbel has done an excellent job here with this song. It was always
a great song when sung by Gareth Gates (UK) but because he was
barely out of school at the time the lyrics seemed a bit naive for
him, probably being too young to have made such a really stupid
mistake. Seeing Sarbel sing it makes much more sense as he's older
and more worldly-wise; the song makes sense as if it could really
have applied to him. AND he does a great job with the song itself;
sung in Greek it gives it a new dimension, with more adult appeal
and facination. However, beacuse it's so simple it doesn't test and
show off his vocal talents as there's no twists and curves, no rise
and fall you get with eastern music which his voice is ideally
suited to. And the video, albeit a charming set based in a wintery
scene (would this be odd to see in either Greece or Cyprus?)
doesn't tell the proper story; there's no scene where he or his
flooze shows any reaction to having made such a "stupid mistake",
which is what the song is all about. I'm no video director but
that's the storyline I'd expect to have worked along. BUT
regardless of these observations (we are asked to rate this video
after all) I think this is a brilliant song and Sarbel sings it
beautifully with the degree of tenderness it needs. Great job,
great song, great singer. Just a shame it never became the masive
hit across Europe it deserved to be. This man needs to be exposed
to the world so they know what they're missing.
